Every seed is selected to suit the region's climate and ecosystem. The characteristics of the four native species used in Skytech Green seed ball projects.

Species

Four Native Species

Each species is chosen according to the climate and soil structure of the region where it is planted. Our seeds are supplied by the Regional Forestry Directorates.

Species 01

Turkish Red Pine

Pinus brutia

Pinaceae (pines)

Our most widespread conifer, covering roughly 25% of Türkiye's forest area. It adapts perfectly to the Mediterranean climate, grows quickly and is known for its ability to regenerate automatically after fire.

Region: Mediterranean, Aegean, Marmara
Climate: Mediterranean climate, resistant to hot, dry summers
Root System: Deep and widely spreading
Germination: 20–30 days
Average Lifespan: 150–200 years
Ecological Role: The first colonizing species after fire. It stabilizes the soil and provides habitat for birds and insects.

Black Pine

Pinus nigra

Pinaceae (pines)

A native pine species resilient to the high elevations of Anatolia. Thanks to its tolerance of drought and frost it is used safely in harsh climates; it is known for its long-lived and durable wood.

Region: Central Anatolia, Western Black Sea, Taurus Mountains
Climate: Continental climate; tolerant of drought and cold
Root System: Deep taproot system
Germination: 20–40 days
Average Lifespan: 300–500 years
Ecological Role: The pioneer species of high-altitude reforestation. It plays a critical role in erosion control and in the steppe–forest transition zone.

Cedar (Cedar of Lebanon)

Cedrus libani

Pinaceae (pines)

A symbol of Anatolia and a heritage species with a life span of centuries. It forms pure forests on high mountains; with its resin and distinctive scent it offers high resistance to drought.

Region: Taurus Mountains, Antalya, Konya
Climate: Mountain climate, elevations of 1,000–2,000 m
Root System: Deep and durable
Germination: 25–40 days
Average Lifespan: 1,000+ years
Ecological Role: A cornerstone of high-altitude ecosystems. It provides habitat for bird and mammal species.

Juniper

Juniperus

Cupressaceae (cypresses)

A resilient native species that adapts to the steep slopes of Anatolia. It grows from the foothills up to the summits; its berries hold nutritional value for the ecosystem, and it is indispensable in the fight against erosion and desertification.

Region: Across Anatolia, especially the interior regions
Climate: Arid and semi-arid climate, stony soils
Root System: Deep, adapted to rocky ground
Germination: 60–120 days (thick seed coat)
Average Lifespan: 300–600 years
Ecological Role: A pioneer species on steep, arid slopes. Its berries provide food for birds and wildlife; critical for erosion control.

Our region-appropriate seeds are sourced from the relevant Regional Forestry Directorates; the species information, the dates the seeds were collected from the trees and their origin details are securely verified with blockchain technology.
